Gyrus occipitalis inferior

Definition

The inferior occipital gyrus is situated along the inferomedial aspect of the hemisphere. It is bounded superiorly by the lateral occipital sulcus and inferomedially by the posterior occipitotemporal sulcus. The inferior occipital gyrus is typically seen to reach the area of the occipital pole, merging with the posterior part of the superior occipital gyrus, and is continuous with the lingual gyrus of the medial aspect of the occipital lobe.
