Medial prefrontal cortex

The medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) is a subdivision of the prefrontal cortex situated on the brain’s inner frontal surface along the midline. It integrates cognitive, emotional, and social information, playing a central role in decision-making, self-reflection, and social cognition. This region is a critical hub within large-scale brain networks such as the default mode network and influences both behavior and emotion regulation.
