筋膜室是由深筋膜和肌间隔包裹的空间，内含一组肌肉，共享同一神经和血液供应。这种组织结构使相关肌肉得以协调运作。
筋膜室内压力升高（例如，损伤后）可导致筋膜室综合征，损害血液循环和神经功能。
