外淋巴管是一条内衬上皮/结缔组织的细小管道，走行于颞骨岩部骨迷路的耳蜗小管（蜗导水管）内。与耳蜗小管相同，该管道开口于耳蜗鼓阶附近，将耳蜗外淋巴引流至后颅窝蛛网膜下腔的脑脊液中，其位置邻近颈静脉孔的外侧缘。

外淋巴管作为一条分流通道，将耳蜗内多余的外淋巴引流至蛛网膜下腔，从而维持内耳内的液体压力平衡。
