中央管是一条狭窄的、充满脑脊液的管道，从第四脑室延伸，穿过延髓，贯穿脊髓全长，直至脊髓圆锥，在此处扩展形成终室。其内壁衬有室管膜细胞，并被脊髓灰质（第X层）的灰质前连合和灰质后连合所环绕。中央管构成中枢神经系统脑室系统的一部分，然而，与其他脑室腔隙不同，其内不含脉络丛。
