侧陷窝是与硬膜内靠近窦处不规则形状静脉间隙（静脉陷窝）相通的小开口。
在上矢状窦两侧通常各有三个陷窝：一个较小的额部陷窝、一个较大的顶部陷窝，以及一个大小介于前两者之间的枕部陷窝。来自大脑半球外表面的大多数大脑静脉开口于这些陷窝，并有众多蛛网膜颗粒（Pacchioni小体）从下方突入其中。
