臀上动脉的浅支进入臀大肌的深面，并分为多个分支，其中一些分支供应该肌肉并与臀下动脉吻合，而另一些则穿过其腱性起点，供应覆盖骶骨后面的皮肤，并与骶外侧动脉的后支吻合。

臀上动脉浅支可描述为两条主要分支（但未列于《解剖学术语》中）：升支和横支。升支通常向上走行，而横支则向外侧走行。两支通常各自发出至少一条发育良好的分支，称为中间支，沿臀大肌下面走行。该中间支一般到达肌肉的上缘，发出数支肌支，并穿过肌肉及其深筋膜以供应皮肤。[1]
