IMAIOS

The aryepiglottic fold is a mucosal structure in the larynx that extends from the lateral margin of the epiglottis to the arytenoid cartilage on each side, forming the lateral boundary of the laryngeal inlet. It contains the cuneiform and corniculate cartilages, mucous glands, and connective tissue, but has only a poorly developed muscular component and lacks a distinct ligamentous "skeleton".

The aryepiglottic folds play a key role in physiologic closure mechanisms of the larynx, particularly during swallowing, by approximating to help close the posterior part of the laryngeal inlet.
