Coccygeal region

Regio coccygea

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The coccygeal region refers to the anatomical area surrounding the coccyx.

The coccygeal region includes the coccygeal vertebrae, associated joints, ligaments, muscles, and the coccygeal plexus, which is formed from the ventral rami of the S4, S5, and Co1 nerves.

Pain in this region, known as coccydynia, can be caused by trauma, abnormal mobility, or other conditions such as infections or tumors.
