Hypophysial cistern

Cisterna hypophysialis

Definition

The hypophysial cistern is an unpaired cerebrospinal fluid-filled subarachnoid cistern located around the infundibular (pituitary) stalk.

Relationships :

  • Superiorly: cistern of lamina terminalis

  • Inferiorly: chiasmatic cistern

  • Laterally: paired carotid cisterns

  • Posteriorly: interpeduncular cistern
