Definition
The intercisternal membranes are the arachnoid membranes that separate the subarachnoidal space into distinguishable cisterns.
The most known of these intercisternal membranes is the basal intercisternal membrane (or membrane of Liliequist) which separates the the interpeduncular, prepontine and chiasmatic cisterns.
