Definition
The inferior lingular segmental bronchus (B5) is one of two segmental bronchi arising from the lingular bronchus of the left lung. It supplies the inferior lingular segment (S5) of the lingular division of the left upper lobe.
The lingular bronchus branches off the left upper lobe bronchus and typically bifurcates into two segmental bronchi the superior lingular segmental bronchus (B4) and the inferior lingular segmental bronchus (B5). This bifurcation pattern (B4B-5) is the dominant anatomy, observed in approximately 91-96.5% of individuals. The inferior lingular segmental bronchus courses inferiorly and anterolaterally to ventilate the inferior lingular segment, which lies along the anteroinferior aspect of the left upper lobe, adjacent to the left heart border. The inferior lingular segment borders the left lower lobe inferiorly and the superior lingular segment superiorly.
