Left cardiophrenic angle
Recessus phrenicomediastinalis sinister
Definition
The left cardiophrenic angle is the clinical term for the left phrenicomediastinal recess on medical imaging (X-ray, CT...). it is located between the heart and the diaphragm and is usually filled with fat.
The cardiophrenic angles are obscured on X-ray in case of :
Pericardial lesions:
pericardial fat pad
pericardial cyst
pericardial fat necrosis
pericardial lipomatosis
Mediastinal lesions:
thymoma
Morgagni's hernia
lymphadenopathy: metastasis, lymphoma, reactional
neurogenic tumor 3
fibrous tumor of the pleura
hydatid cyst
Lung lesions: lobe collapse or lobe consolidation
