Left cardiophrenic angle

The left cardiophrenic angle is the clinical term for the left phrenicomediastinal recess on medical imaging (X-ray, CT...). it is located between the heart and the diaphragm and is usually filled with fat.

The cardiophrenic angles are obscured on X-ray in case of :

• Pericardial lesions:

  • pericardial fat pad

  • pericardial cyst

  • pericardial fat necrosis

  • pericardial lipomatosis

• Mediastinal lesions:

  • thymoma

  • Morgagni's hernia

  • lymphadenopathy: metastasis, lymphoma, reactional

  • neurogenic tumor 3

• fibrous tumor of the pleura

• hydatid cyst

• Lung lesions: lobe collapse or lobe consolidation
