Definition

The orbital part of optic nerve (intraorbital part) is the portion in the orbit, between the part in canal and the intraocular part of optic nerve. It is from 20 mm to 30 mm in length and has a slightly sinuous course to allow for movements of the eyeball.

In this part the optic nerve is surrounded by all three meningeal layers.
