Pericardial sac

Saccus pericardiacus

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The pericardial sac, is a double-walled fibroserous sacs that contains the heart and the roots of the great vessels. The space between the two layers of the pericardial sac is the the pericardial cavity.

For some sources the term pericardial sac is synonym to the term pericardium, for others it is only the sac formed by the fibrous pericardium and the parietal layer of the serous pericardium.
