Definition

The regions of foot include the heel region, the dorsum, and the sole.

The heel region comprises the prominent posterior part of the foot. It consists of the bulging posterior portion of the calcaneus bone, also known as the heel bone, which extends beyond the ankle joint. More information can be found here: Heel region.

The dorsum of the foot refers to the upper surface of the foot. It is located distal to the ankle and covers the dorsal or extensor surfaces of the tarsus, metatarsus, and digits of the foot. More details can be found here: Dorsum of foot.

The sole of the foot pertains to the lower surface of the foot. It encompasses the flexor surface of the tarsus, metatarsus, and digits of the foot. Additional information can be found here: Sole of foot.
