Definition

The retroduodenal part (Retroduodenal segment) of the bile duct refers to the short segment of the CBD that passes behind the first part of the duodenum (D1) as the duct descends from the hepatoduodenal ligament toward the head of the pancreas. It lies in close relation to the gastroduodenal artery and the posterior superior pancreaticoduodenal artery, which may cross or run alongside the duct in this region.
