Mucosal pharyngeal space
Spatium pharyngeum mucosum
Definition
The pharyngeal mucosal space (PMS) lies just lateral and posterior to the nasopharynx and oropharynx.
Boundaries:
Middle layer of the deep cervical fascia posteriorly and laterally.
Cricoid cartilage inferiorly
Base of skull superiorly
Relations:
Retropharyngeal space posteriorly
Parapharyngea] space laterally
Contents:
Pharyngeal mucosa
Lymphoid tissue of Waldeyer's ring(tonsils and adenoids)
Minor salivary glands
Superior and middle pharyngeal constrictor muscles
