The external acoustic meatus is formed partly by cartilage and membrane, and partly by bone, and is lined by skin.
软骨部（meatus acusticus externus cartilagineus）长约 8 毫米；与耳廓软骨相延续，并牢固附着于颞骨听觉突的周缘。该软骨在外耳道的上部和后部存在缺损，由纤维膜代替；在软骨的前部可见两至三条深裂隙（外耳道软骨切迹；Santorini 切迹）。
