下颌窝（关节窝）是位于颞骨颧突前支后方的椭圆形下降区域，用于容纳下颌骨髁突。
其前界为关节结节；后界为颞骨鼓部，将其与外耳道分隔；下颌窝被一条狭窄裂隙——岩鼓裂（Glaserian裂）——分为两部分。前部由鳞部构成，表面光滑，新鲜状态下覆有软骨，与下颌骨髁突形成关节。该部分后方有一小锥形隆起；这是一个显著结节的遗迹，在某些哺乳动物中，该结节从下颌骨髁突后方向下延伸，以防止髁突向后移位。下颌窝后部由颞骨鼓部构成，为非关节面，有时容纳部分腮腺。
