颞骨岩部后缘标志着其后面的末端。此缘分为内、外两段：
内侧半与枕骨基底部相连，形成岩下窦的沟槽。该静脉窦将血液从海绵窦引流至下方的乙状窦。
颞骨岩部后缘的外侧半呈现一不规则凹陷，称为颈静脉切迹。其与枕骨颈静脉切迹共同构成颈静脉孔的边界。有时，起自岩部颈静脉切迹的骨棘可将颈静脉孔分隔为两个腔隙。
