定义
咽腔是呼吸系统和消化系统共有的解剖间隙。Evans与de Lahunta（2013）将咽腔的大致位置界定为：从经过眶口水平的头部横切面，延伸至经过第二颈椎的相似横切面。
Constantinescu与Schaller（2012）指出，家畜的咽腔与人类不同，其范围从颅底延伸至第六颈椎水平，这是由于"家畜具有较长的软腭以及较钝的颈头角"。
