Anterior nucleus of lateral lemniscus; Ventral nucleus of lateral lemniscus

Nucleus anterior lemnisci lateralis

Definition

Sound in the contralateral ear leads to the strongest responses in the anterior nucleus of lateral lemniscus, which deals with some temporary processing. The anterior nucleus of lateral lemniscus may also be essential to the IC’s decoding of amplitude modulated sounds.

Anterior nucleus of lateral lemniscus cells have little spontaneous activity, broad and moderately complex tuning curves; they have both phasic and tonic responses and are involved in temporal processing.
