Bones of pectoral girdle
Ossa cinguli pectoralis
- Latin synonym: Ossa cinguli membrorum superiorum
- Synonym: Bones of shoulder girdle; Bones of upper limb girdle
Definition
The bones of pectoral girdle (shoulder girdle, girdle of the superior extremity) are the scapulæ and clavicles.
In front, however, the pectoral girdle is completed by the upper end of the sternum, with which the medial ends of the clavicles articulate. Behind, it is widely imperfect, the scapulæ being connected to the trunk by muscles only.
