Falciform ligament

Ligamentum falciforme

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The falciform ligament of the liver is a reflection of the peritoneum around the ligamentum teres that forms a somewhat triangular fold, attaching the upper and anterior surfaces of the liver to the diaphragm and abdominal wall.

The falciform ligament of the liver is a remnant of the ventral mesentery in fetus. It contains variable amount of fat and the ligamentum teres (oblitered umbilical vein).
