Definition

Antoine Micheau

The hypogastric region is an anatomical area of the abdomen. It is one of the nine regions of the abdomen, located below the umbilical region and above the pubic area. This region is also referred to as the pubic or suprapubic region. It is bounded laterally by the left and right inguinal regions (iliac regions )and is situated inferior to the umbilical region.

The hypogastric region contains several important anatomical structures, including parts of the small intestine (such as the ileum), the sigmoid colon, and the urinary bladder. In females, it also includes the uterus and ovaries, while in males, it encompasses the prostate.
