- Related terms: Inferior part; Inferior part of vestibular nerve
Definition
The inferior branch of vestibular nerve innervates the saccule and the ampulla of the posterior semicircular canal.
The fibers of the inferior branch of vestibular nerve arise from bipolar cells of the vestibular ganglion. The inferior branch of vestibular nerve is located in the posteroinferior quadrant of the internal auditory canal.
The fibers then traverse the foramina in the area vestibularis inferior and end in the saccule with two branches:
- Posterior ampullary nerve
- Saccular nerve
