Interdigital spaces of foot
Spatia interdigitalia pedis
- Latin synonym: Spatia interdigitalia I-IV pedis
- Synonym: Interdigital spaces 1-4 of foot; Web spaces of foot
Definition
The spaces between the toes are known as the interdigital spaces of foot (a.k.a. web spaces of the foot). There are a total of four interdigital spaces, numbered from the inside to the outside.
The skin in the first interdigital space is innervated by the deep peroneal nerve. The remaining interdigital spaces of foot receive their cutaneous innervation from the superficial peroneal nerve on the dorsal side and cutaneous branches of the medial and lateral plantar nerves on the plantar side.
