Intermammary cleft
Sulcus intermammarius
Definition
The intermammary cleft (also known as the intermammary sulcus or cleavage) is the anatomical space or groove located between the two breasts on the anterior chest wall. It is defined as the area bounded laterally by the medial borders of the breasts, overlying the sternum. This region is formed by the skin and subcutaneous tissue that bridge the two breast mounds, and its depth and visibility vary depending on breast size, shape, and the degree of medial projection of the breast tissue.
