Lateral lip of linea aspera

Definition
The lateral lip of linea aspera provides attachment to the vastus lateralis muscle, which extends upward along the lateral aspect of the gluteal tuberosity, the anteroinferior margins of the greater trochanter and the upper part of intertrochanteric line on the anterior surface. On the inner side of vastus lateralis muscle, lies the insertion site for the short head of the biceps femoris muscle.
