The medial segmental artery of the liver (Segment IV artery; Middle hepatic artery), is the arterial branch that provides the principal blood supply to segment IV (the medial segment) of the left hepatic lobe.

This artery is notable for its highly variable origin. The most common origins are:

  • Left hepatic artery (LHA): ~48% of cases

  • Right hepatic artery (RHA): ~44% of cases

  • Common hepatic artery (CHA): ~9% of cases

  • Rare origins include the proper hepatic artery, replaced RHA, or replaced LHA
