Facies medialis tibiae

  • Related terms: Medial surface

Definition

The medial surface of tibia is situated between its anterior and medial borders within the shaft. It is predominantly located beneath the skin.

The upper region of the medial surface of tibia functions as the insertion point for three muscles of the thigh. These muscles, arranged from front to back, are the sartorius (from the anterior compartment of the thigh), gracilis (from the medial compartment of the thigh), and semitendinosus (from the posterior compartment of the thigh). Towards the posterior aspect, the tibial collateral ligament connects to the medial border of the tibia.
