Anterior border of tibia

Margo anterior tibiae

  • Synonym: Anterior margin of tibia
  • Related terms: Anterior border

Definition

The anterior border of tibia (a.k.a. the frontal margin or the anterior crest of tibia) is wavy in shape and stretches from the tibial tuberosity above to the anterior aspect of the medial malleolus below. It lies just beneath the skin and contributes to the prominence of the shin. Along its entire length, the anterior border serves as an attachment point for the deep fascia and, inferiorly, for the upper band of the extensor retinaculum.
