Median umbilical ligament

Ligamentum umbilicale medianum

Definition

IMAIOS

The vertex of the bladder is joined to the umbilicus by the remains of the urachus which forms the median umbilical ligament, a fibromuscular cord, broad at its attachment to the bladder but narrowing as it ascends, that is covered by the median umbilical fold.

The median umbilical ligament, may not be confused with the medial umbilical ligament, that is a paired structure localized on the deep surface of the anterior abdominal wall, and covered by the right and left medial umbilical folds and that corresponds to the distal occluded portion of the umbilical artery.
