Meningeal branches of vertebral artery

Rami meningei arteriae vertebralis

  • Related terms: Meningeal branches

Definition

The meningeal branches of vertebral artery are branches passing along the anterior and posterior rim of the foramen magnum, and supplying the bone and dura mater of the posterior cranial fossa and falx cerebelli.

Note that in some sources (neuroangio.org for example), the posterior meningeal artery is described as a branch of vertebral artery for dural region of the posterior fossa: probably this denomination refers to the "posterior meningeal branch" included in the meningeal branches of vertebral artery as termed in the Terminologia Anatomica.
