  • Synonym: Pectineal line of pubis
  • Related terms: Pecten pubis; Pectineal line

Definition

The pecten pubis (a.k.a. pectineal line) is the sharp upper border of the superior pubic ramus. It starts behind the pubic tubercle and extends laterally behind the iliopubic eminence, merging with the arcuate line of the ilium. Collectively they form the iliopectineal line, contributing to the boundaries of the pelvic brim.

The pecten pubis serves as an attachment site for the conjoint tendon and lacunar ligament medially, and pectinate ligament laterally. The pectineus muscle originates from the pectineal surface and the pecten pubis.
