Posterior segmental bronchus of right lung
Bronchus segmentalis posterior pulmonis dextri
- Latin synonym: Bronchus II pulmonis dextri
- Synonym: Bronchus 2 of right lung; B2
- Related terms: Posterior segmental bronchus [B II]
Definition
The posterior segmental bronchus of the right lung (B2) is the segmental bronchus that arises from the right upper lobe bronchus and supplies the posterior segment (S2) of the right upper lobe.
Anatomical details:
Origin: It branches from the right upper lobe bronchus, which itself is the first branch of the right main bronchus. The right upper lobe bronchus typically trifurcates into three segmental bronchi: the apical (B1), posterior (B2), and anterior (B3) segmental bronchi.
Course and distribution: The posterior segmental bronchus courses posteriorly and slightly laterally to ventilate the posterior segment of the right upper lobe, which lies against the posterior chest wall, roughly at the level of the 2nd-4th posterior ribs.
Subdivisions: It further divides into subsegmental bronchi (typically a lateral and a posterior subsegmental branch).
