Foveola sacroiliaca
- Synonym: Gluteal dimple
- Eponym: Dimple of Venus; Dimple of Apollo
Definition
Sacroiliac dimples are paired small indentations located over in the skin of the sacral region in front ofthe posterior superior iliac spine region, near the sacroiliac joints. These dimples are typically symmetrical and are considered a normal anatomical variant. They are distinct from sacrococcygeal or sacral dimples, which are located over the sacrum and coccyx and can sometimes be associated with underlying spinal anomalies.
