The serosa of pericardium consists of a mesothelial serosa (serosa of pericardium) supported by a thin layer of connective tissue, the subserosa (subserosa of pericardium). Together, these form a smooth, friction-reducing surface that lines the fibrous pericardium (parietal layer) and covers the heart (visceral layer, or epicardium).
