Definition
The thalamoparietal fibres are thalamocortical projection fibres connecting the thalamus with the parietal cortex. An important component consists of somatosensory fibres arising from the ventral posterolateral (VPL) and ventral posteromedial (VPM) nuclei and projecting to the postcentral gyrus.
These fibres pass from the thalamus through the posterior limb of the internal capsule and then fan superiorly through the corona radiata to reach the parietal cortex.
The thalamoparietal fibres are considered to be an important component of the larger group of thalamocortical fibres, called the central thalamic radiation or the superior thalamic radiation.
