Definition

The term “cerebrum” refers to that part of the forebrain or prosencephalon, that develops from the telencephalon.

The cerebrum or telencephalon consists of two cerebral hemispheres that cover the diencephalon. Each cerebral hemisphere is composed of an overlying layer of gray matter called the cerebral cortex, which surrounds the underlying white matter and subcortical gray matter nuclei, including the basal nuclei.
