Definition

The anterior vein of the right lung (V3) refers to a segmental pulmonary vein that drains the anterior segment (S3) of the right upper lobe. This vein is part of the peripheral segmental venous system of the right upper lobe and typically drains into the right superior pulmonary vein, though anatomical variations are common.

The anterior vein (V3) collects deoxygenated blood from the anterior bronchopulmonary segment and joins with other segmental veins—such as the apical vein (V1) and posterior vein (V2)—before ultimately draining into the left atrium via the right superior pulmonary vein.
