The xiphichondral ligaments are two such ligaments (anterior and posterior located) that only reinforce the 7th sternochondral joint.
The anterior xiphichondral ligament, the more pronounced, connects the anterior surface of the sternal end of the 7th costal cartilage to the anterior margin of the seventh sternal costal notch on the xiphoid process.
The posterior xiphichondral ligament connects the posterior surface of the sternal end of the 7th costal cartilage to the posterior margin of the seventh sternal costal notch on the xiphoid process.
