定义
术语中枢描述的是某一结构更靠近身体中心或躯干的位置。这与"外周"一词相反，后者指结构远离身体中心或躯干区域。
例如，我们的神经系统可以分为两个子部分，即中枢神经系统和外周神经系统。中枢神经系统由脑和脊髓组成，位于中轴骨骼内，靠近身体中心。脑受到颅骨的保护，脊髓位于椎管内。相反，外周神经系统由脑神经和脊神经组成，支配远离身体中心的结构，例如附肢肌肉。
