术语近端用于描述某一结构或身体部位靠近躯干或靠近其起点的位置。这与"远端"一词相反，后者指身体部位距躯干或其起点最远处。

例如，大腿前部的股四头肌肉在其起点处近端附着于髋骨，而其远端则止于胫骨上端。同样，股骨在近端与髋骨形成关节（靠近躯干或中轴体），而在远端则与胫骨形成关节（远离躯干或中轴体）。
