定义
左肾上腺略大于右侧，呈半月形，其凹面与左肾上部的内侧缘相适应。
其内侧缘凸出，外侧缘凹入；上端较窄，下端较圆钝。其前面分为两个区域：上区被网膜囊腹膜覆盖，将其与胃的贲门端分隔，有时也与脾的上极相隔；下区与胰腺及脾动脉相邻，因此不被腹膜覆盖。
在前面近下端处，有一向下向前走行的沟或门，肾上腺静脉由此穿出。其后面有一纵嵴，将其分为两个区域；外侧区紧贴肾，内侧区较小，紧贴膈的左小腿。
