Calcaneal tubercle

Tuberculum calcanei

Definition

Antoine Micheau, Muhammad A. Javaid

The calcaneal tubercle, located on the front of the sole, is a prominent bony projection. It serves as the attachment point for the rear portion of the short plantar ligament. It is important to mention that the long plantar ligament lies superficial to the short plantar ligament and connects the rough bony strip between the front-facing calcaneal tubercle and the rear-facing calcaneal tuberosity.
