Definition

Antoine Micheau

The plantar calcaneocuboid ligament (short calcaneocuboid ligament; short plantar ligament) is a robust, rectangular band located on the plantar aspect of the foot, deep to the long plantar ligament. It extends from the anterior tubercle and adjacent depression on the plantar surface of the calcaneus to the plantar surface of the cuboid bone, just posterior to the groove for the peroneus longus tendon.

Structurally, the short plantar ligament is typically broad and thick, and may exhibit some variation in shape and banding. It lies immediately deep to the long plantar ligament and provides support to the calcaneocuboid joint, contributing to the stability of the lateral longitudinal arch of the foot.
