Capsular posterior attachment

Insertio posterioris capsulae articularis

Definition

Antoine Micheau

Posteriorly, the articular capsule of temporomandibular joint is continuous with the bilaminar zone (retrodiscal tissue) of the articular disc, which attaches to both the posterior surface of the condyle and the tympanic plate of the temporal bone. The discomalleolar ligament also reinforces the upper internal portion of the posterior capsule.
