Definition

Antoine Micheau

The superior basal vein of the right lung is a segmental tributary of the inferior pulmonary vein that drains mainly the anterior basal segment of right lung (S8) and the lateral basal segment (S9) of the right lower lobe.

The superior basal vein can exhibit variations in its drainage pattern, sometimes forming common trunks with other basal veins or draining into different pulmonary venous tributaries than expected.
